Delhi Police unveils logos of Finger Print Bureau and Bomb Disposal Squad

The unveiling ceremony was held at the Delhi Police Headquarters in the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and all senior officers

New Delhi, June 21

The Delhi Police unveiled the official emblems of the Finger Print Bureau (FPB) and the Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) in the force. These emblems will be displayed on official jackets and documents, said officials.

The unveiling ceremony was held at the Delhi Police Headquarters in the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora and all senior officers. 

The Finger Print Bureau was established in 1983 and operates under the Delhi Police Crime Branch and is instrumental in forensic crime investigations. With a database of over five lakh criminals, the Bureau uses techniques like powder and UV light to match crime scene fingerprints with stored data.

The officials said that the modern software systems such as Automated Fingerprint and Palmprint Identification System (AFPIS), National Automated Fingerprint Identification System (NAFIS), and Computerised Remote Identification of Suspects (CRIS) have significantly enhanced the capabilities of the Finger Print Bureau.

Since the nationwide launch of NAFIS in 2022 the system has led to the identification and arrest of numerous offenders through crime scene prints, they added.

The Bomb Disposal Squad, founded in 2002 is one of the critical wings of Delhi Police 

BDS and its counterpart, the Bomb Detection Team (BDT), conduct 24×7 surveillance, sanitise venues for VIP visits. They have been trained alongside the National Security Guard (NSG), Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and DPA, these teams use vapour detectors, sniffer dogs, and other advanced tools for anti-sabotage checks and rapid response.
