New Delhi, July 4
A CPI (Maoist) operative in Jharkhand has been chargesheeted by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for handling arms, collecting levy and harbouring cadres of the banned terror organisation.
Rajesh Deogam of West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand has been charged under various sections of IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substances Act and UA(P) Act in the supplementary chargesheet.
The case was originally registered by the local police against five persons, related to the recovery of a huge amount of money and various incriminating materials pertaining to key CPI (Maoist) member Misir Besra in March 2024.
NIA, which took over the probe in July 2024, found that Deogam had been actively supporting the criminal conspiracy of the proscribed organisation to commit terrorist acts, organise meetings and extort money from contractors and traders.
The officials added that disclosures by Deogam had led to the seizure of gelatine sticks, along with Rs. 10.50 lakhs cash, walkie-talkie, Samsung tablet, power bank, radio set, levy collection receipt and other incriminating materials. These materials were found buried in the forest areas between Husipi and Rajabhasa villages.
