Assam cadre IPS officer Anand Mishra resigns from police services

An Assam cadre senior IPS officer, Anand Mishra known for his tremendous work on foiling cattle smuggling, robbery and cross border crimes resigned from police services.
Currently serving as Superintendent of Police in Lakhimpur, Assam, Mishra has officially resigned from his position, effective January 16, 2024.
Mishra expressed his decision to step down from the IPS, citing a desire for a life of freedom and independence.
In the letter, he stated, "This is to submit my unconditional resignation from the IPS to pursue a life of freedom and independence that I want to realize through various social services and other means that are beyond the mandate of IPS."
Mishra had recently met RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat at Majuli. However, he told media that it was just a "friendly meet".
Speculations are rift that Mishra is likely to join the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) and contest for Lok Sabha elections from a seat in Buxar of Bihar, his native place.
Recently, according to a governor’s notification, Superintendent of Police, Lakhimpur, IPS Anand Mishra (RR-2011) and Superintendent of Police (Border-II) APS Randeep Kumar Baruah (DR-1993) were placed at the disposal of the Government of Manipur to take charge of the SITs constituted for Manipur incidents with immediate effect.
However, Mishra tendered his resignation from police services.
