CBI arrests two including a Superintendent Customs in Andhra Pradesh for bribery of over Rs. 3 lakhs

CBI conducted searches and recovered an amount of Rs. 22.74 lakhs from the possession of one Assistant Commissioner, Customs at Secunderabad Railway Station and an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs from other Customs Officers

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two accused including Superintendent, Customs House, Kakinada Port, Kakinada (Andhra Pradesh) and representative of a private firm who were intercepted during transaction of Rs. 3.18 lakhs

A case was registered by CBI against two accused including Superintendent, Customs House, Kakinada Port, Kakinada, a Representative of a Kakinada based Cargo Service private firm and unknown Public Servants & Pvt. Persons on allegations of demanding bribe and for bribing of Public Servant. It was alleged that Customs Officers were receiving bribe for extending undue favours towards customs clearance to the said private firm and other parties.

The CBI laid a trap and caught both accused while bribe transaction took place between them on 05.10.2024, the alleged bribe money of Rs. 3.18 lakhs was recovered from accused Superintendent, Customs. Both the accused were later arrested.

During the course of investigation of the case, CBI conducted searches and recovered an amount of Rs. 22.74 lakhs from the possession of one Assistant Commissioner, Customs at Secunderabad Railway Station and an amount of Rs. 5 lakhs from other Customs Officers. Searches were also conducted by CBI at the residential and official premises of accused which led to recovery of incriminating documents, added officials.
