CBI arrests two officials of GST in Hyderabad in a bribery case

Both accused harassed and extracted Rs. 5 lakh from complainant : CBI

New Delhi, August 20

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a case against two accused including Superintendent and Inspector of Principal Commissionerate of Central Tax. GST Hyderabad Commissionerate in bribery case. 

The officials said that in a complaint registered against them, it was alleged that both accused harassed and extracted Rs. 5 lakh from complainant. They also threatened to impose Goods & Services Tax on complainant for certain alleged irregularity.

The complainant alleged that accused GST officers seized the iron scrap shop of complainant’s private company and demanded and accepted Rs. 5 lakh as illegal gratification in July 2023.  It was also alleged that accused further demanded Rs. 3 lakhs to open the seized premises.

The agency then conducted searches at two places in Hyderabad which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
