CBI court sentences one in Bihar in BSNL cheating case

The accused facilitated the installation of fictitious telephone by changing their status from OYT General to Non OYT Special category to ensue immediate installation on the basis of certificate from Director, SSI Unit : CBI

New Delhi, February 17

The Special Judge for CBI cases, Court no. 1, Patna sentenced accused  Shailendra Srivastava alias Pappu Srivastava to two years’ Rigorous Imprisonment (RI) with fine of Rs. 60,000/- in  a case related to fraudulently cheating BSNL. 

CBI had registered the instant case on 14.01.2002 against accused including accused convicted by the court. It was alleged that installation of three telephones in fictitious names in one premises and fictitious names were utilized  by the accused to escape the liability of paying the huge bill raised on the telephone. It was further alleged that accused facilitated the installation of fictitious telephone by changing their status  from OYT General to Non OYT Special category to ensue immediate installation on the basis of certificate from Director, SSI Unit.

During investigation, it was also revealed/ found that accused SDO in connivance with  others accused had allowed the changing of category status of the telephone connection applied in the fictitious name  in abuse of his officials position from General OYT to Special Category for immediate connection, on the basis of a certificate from the Director of SSI Unit. Whereas the Spl. Category is only meant for permanent connection of SSI Unit and not to provisional SSI Unit. And thereby caused loss to BSNL to a tune of nearly Rs 5.53 lakhs.

After investigation, chargesheet was filed by CBI on 25.11.2003  against accused including accused convicted and sentenced.
