Conman Prakash Rai 'Sherpuria' now taken in custody of Lucknow Police

The Lucknow Police took the custody of the conman Sanjay Prakash Rai ‘Sherpuria’, who has been lodged in jail. The UP Special Task Force (STF) had arrested the conman from Lucknow.
The Lucknow police had received a complaint stating that Rai would post photos of himself on social media with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other Union Ministers and made material gains using these posts.
Rai was arrested based on the allegations that he collected money worth crores of rupees from people and organisations by forging documents that falsely showed a connection to the Prime Minister’s Office.
According to sources, the Youth Rural Entrepreneur Foundation (YREF), a company allegedly run by Rai, has retired IAS, IPS and armed forces’ officers on its advisory board. As per the records of the Union Ministry of Corporate Affairs, YREF was incorporated on October 30, 2019.
The conman was booked under sections 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 469 (forgery for purpose of harming reputation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and under Information Technology Act.
