ED attaches properties worth over Rs. 1cr of PWD chief engineer in Bhopal

Deepak Asai misused his official position, earned illegal money through corruption and invested his ill-gotten income in various movable and immovable properties : ED

New Delhi, February 3

Directorate of Enforcement (ED), Bhopal has provisionally attached  properties worth Rs. 1.05 crore (market value of the attached properties is Rs. 2.5 crore). 

The case is related to Deepak Asai, who was working as a Superintending Engineer (In-charge Chief Engineer) in Public Works Department (PWD), Bhopal. 

The provisionally attached properties are in the form of the immovable properties residential accommodations and commercial shop situated at District- Bhopal, M.P. and District-Bhandara, Maharashtra and movable properties in the form of various FDs/NSCs held with the Post Office & in the form of Insurance Policies maintained with ICICI Prudential Life Insurance Company owned by Deepak Asai and his wife.

ED initiated investigation on the basis of FIR registered by Special Police Establishment, Lokayukta, Bhopal Division, Bhopal against Deepak Asai and his wife namely Jyoti Asai for acquiring disproportionate assets.

ED investigation revealed that the Deepak Asai while being posted as a public servant in Public Works Department, misused his official position, earned illegal money through corruption and invested his ill-gotten income in various movable and immovable properties on a large scale, whereas Jyoti Asai allegedly assisted her husband in converting/projecting her husband’s illegitimate income as untainted, officials informed.
