Former DGP of Bihar, Gupteshwar Pandey has become a religious preacher on ‘Bhagwat Katha’ that airs regularly from Hadirwar. DGP Pandey, now Gupteshwar Pandeyji Maharaj recently attended meetings of the saints in Krishna Janmabhoomi case on January 3.
Pandeyji Maharaj now speaks on Lord Krishna and his Leelas on a local news channel Subharti TV. Recently, he addressed quite a few religious sessions for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir Trust, which brought his new avatar to the public.
Pandey is active on his social media from Facebook to Twitter where he regularly posts about his Bhagwad Katha sessions. in his recent post, he has mentioned about the katha starting on January 15 to January 21 where he appealed to his devotees to listen to the session on his You Tube channel. Pandey has held innumerable sessions of Bhagwad Katha in UP.
It’s been a year Gupteshwar Pandey had retired and joined the Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s Janta Dal United (JDU) however did not get a ticket to contest the polls.
Pandey had taken a voluntary retirement in September 2020 five months before completion of his service tenure. He was succeeded by SK Singhal, the present DGP of Bihar.
Nine months after his VRS, Pandey requested the Bihar government to allow him to withdraw his resignation. However, later turned to spiritualism.
Gupteshwar Pandey, a 1987 batch IPS officer of Bihar cadre. He had become viral because of a video made featuring him as 'Robinhood Bihar Ke'.
As he describes himself as ‘Buxar ka Beta, Bihar ka Sipahi’, Pandey has had illustrious police career in Bihar but two failed attempts at politics. He had earlier too wished to contest from the Buxar Lok Sabha seat on a BJP ticket in 2009 however didn’t succeed.
Pandey was born in 1961 in Geruabandh village in Buxar district of Bihar. Pandey graduated from Patna University in Sanskrit and even took his UPSC exam in Sanskrit. He cleared the UPSC in his first attempt and went on to become an Income Tax officer. In his second attempt, he cleared the IPS.
Pandey served as the SP of several Naxal-affected districts like Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Arwal, Begusarai and Nalanda, besides being DIG of Munger and Muzaffarpur zone. Later, he became the IG of Muzaffarpur Zone and was DG of Bihar Police (training) before he went on to become the DGP.
As the DGP, Pandey had also started an all Biihar What's App number to report crimes straight to the DGP office, a first in a state of Bihar. Only a few know that Pandey is the officer who was instrumental in getting alcohol ban in Bihar.
During his stint as the DGP Bihar, the high profile Sushant Singh suicide case came to the fore where Pandey spearheaded the investigations.
It was under Pandey’s instructions that an FIR was registered in Patna in the Sushant Singh Rajput case in 2020. The Bihar police had even sent a special team to probe which was allegedly stopped by Mumbai Police citing he quarantine rules.
Pandey had openly criticized Mumbai Police for their actions against Bihar Police and questioned the manner in which Bihar officers were quarantined and treated. He had called Sushant Singh ‘the son of Bihar’ and the case had gathered immense support from Bihar as well as various sections of the country.
While many alleged that Pandey only gathered attention and opportunity to get into years long wish to enter politics with the Sushant Singh Rajput case, Pandey claimed Bihar Police was tightening the noose around the culprits however the case was transferred to CBI before they could act.
Pandey has however put all the media attention and policing behind when he wore the saffron robe to and walked towards spirituality six months ago. Now, he only remembers God and wants to spread Bhagwad to masses.
