The Delhi Police West District busted an infamous “NS Pahar Ganj”gang of snatchers-cum-auto-lifters that were allegedly involved in 50 crimes in the national capital.
The police have identified the five criminals as Avinash (22), Karan alias Sahil (21), Juman alias Monu (21), Pradeep alias Rahul (23) and the receiver of the snatched/stolen mobile phones, namely Punit alias Punnu (28) who all belong to Paharganj area.
DCP West Urvija Goel stated that the accused formed a gang that used to snatch mobile phones from the citizens while riding pillion on the NS motorcycles.
The police had formed a special team to nab the gang. The police had recently filed a complaint of snatching incident in Rajouri Garden wherein two bike borne young boys snatched a mobile phone of passers-by near Tagore Garden Metro Station.
During the course of investigation, the team checked 50-60 CCTV footages around the place of alleged incident. One footage showed the snatchers wearing a mask while the pillion rider was without mask. The pillion rider was identified as Pradeep alias Rahul of Paharganj. When the raids were conducted at his whereabouts he was found absconding from there. During further enquiry it was found he belong to infamous “NS Paharganj Gang” .
The police then identified three other members of this gang were identified as Avinash, Jumman and Karan however they were also found absconding from their whereabouts. The team started patrolling in the area in plain clothes and placed pickets on hots spots of snatching incidents.
The police laid a trap near Rajouri Garden by deploying pickets at ESI Pickets and Guru Tej Bahadur University, Subhash Nagar. During vehicle checking accused Jumman and Pradeep were arrested by the ESI picket staff on a stolen NTORQ Scooty whereas accused Avinash and Karan were caught at the Guru Tej Bahadur University, Subhash Nagar when they were coming to commit snatching incident in the area on their blue colour NS 200 motorcycle.
The police recovered one country made pistol along with its two live cartridges were recovered from accused Avinash while one button actuated knife was recovered from accused Karan.
During the interrogation, accused persons disclosed that they all belong to notorious NS Paharganj Gang used to snatch mobile phones on NS motorcycles so they are known as infamous NS gang and used to supply the stolen mobile phones to one receiver Punit.
The police recovered 11 stolen mobile phones and two Bajaj NS 200 Motorcycles and two stolen scooties from them. The police also seized one .315 bore countrymade pistol with live cartridges from them.
The police added that accused Avinash was previously involved in three criminal cases while Karan was allegedly involved in five. While Jumman was involved in five cases, Pradeep was found involved in 18 cases.
The police are further investigating the case where the gang has been allegedly involved in similar crime.
