Nagpur Riots- Curfew lifted, Nagpur CP ensures peace, assures action on rioters

New Delhi, March 24

The government has lifted curfew from violence-hit areas of Nagpur.

Addressing the media, Commissioner of Police Dr Ravinder Singal said, “A decision to lift the curfew has been taken after assessing the current situation. The situation is normal, and all officials are on the ground. We appeal to citizens to maintain peace and law & order.”

He also urged people to refrain from spreading rumours and to exercise caution while posting anything related to riots on social media.

Providing an update on the riots, Singal said that over 110 people have been identified, and fresh arrests are being made. In total, 13 FIRs have been registered, including four by the Nagpur Police cyber cell, in which the main accused Fahim Khan has been charged under Section 152 of BNS for sedition.

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis said the cost of damages caused during the arson and vandalism would be “recovered from the rioters themselves” and “bulldozer action” would be taken if required.
