NIA conducts searches in Jharkhand CPI (Maoist) case

New Delhi, July 29

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) conducted extensive searches at four locations in Jharkhand in a case relating to the arrest of CPI (Maoist) cadres and seizure of arms and ammunition.
 

The searches were undertaken at the premises of suspects at two locations in Ranchi district and two in Latehar district of Jharkhand in connection with the case. The agency had taken over the investigation from Peshrar police station in district Lohardaga on 14th June 2022.
 

During the searches, an amount of Rs 36.30 lakhs, along with incriminating posters, digital devices and various other documents, was seized.
 

The NIA had earlier filed supplementary chargesheets against 22 accused under relevant sections of IPC, Arms Act, Explosive Substance Act, CLA Act and UA(P) Act in the case. The accused were found to be working as OGWs (overground workers) of CPI (Maoist), a proscribed terrorist organization.
 

Investigations had revealed that these accused had assisted members of CPI (Maoist) with logistics support and were also involved in channelizing the levy/money extorted by the outfit’s armed cadre, officials added.
