New Delhi, May 26
A rape accused allegedly attempted suicide inside a police station in Uttar Pradesh. The accused’s family, however, alleged that he was strangulated because they had failed to pay the police a bribe of Rs 10,000.
The 25-year-old boy was arrested for allegedly raping a minor girl in 2019. He was arrested following a court order when he was present at a function, and brought him to the police station early on May 25 morning.
The police said that the accused requested a constable to take him to the toilet. When he did not open the door after a while, the police constable allegedly alerted the other policemen present at the police station. The policemen broke open the washroom door and allegedly found the youth attempting suicide.
The accused was rushed to the district hospital where he was provided emergency treatment and later referred to Bareilly district. His condition was reported stable, added police.
The accused’s elder brother shot a video alleging that the police demanded bribe of Rs. 10000 from the family to allegedly let go off the boy and when the family couldn't pay the sum, they strangulated his brother.
The police have refuted the allegations and stated that the boy was arrested on a court order and there is no foulplay.
