Slab collapse at a construction site in Yerawada of Pune kills six workers, three injured

New Delhi, February 4
Five persons died and five more were seriously injured a slab collapsed at an under-construction building in Yerawada area.
The deceased were those working as labours at the construction site reportedly owned by Blue Grass Constructions. Bluegrass Construction company is constructing a building on the site of Wadia Farm near Shastrinnagar Chowk on Pune-Ahmednagar Road.
15 workers were working to make the required iron mesh. They were engaged in welding iron bars when the mesh collapsed.
The police said the the incident took place from Lane Number 8 of Yerawada area at 11 pm.
The local alerted the police and fire and emergency service. They also rushed to the spot to rescue the trapped persons.
According to the police, the structure had been constructed for laying down the slab for the basement. Many workers were working at night. The impact of the collapse was so sudden that the five persons died on the spot.
The fire and emergency serivces recovered bodies of six workers from the spot while three injured workers were rushed to hospital for treatment. Two of the injured workers are battling for ther life, police added.
The police have registered a case to probe ascertain the cause of the accident.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid his condolences to the victims of the slab collapse incident. “Pained by the mishap at an under-construction building in Pune. Condolences to the bereaved families. I hope that all those injured in the mishap recover at the earliest”, PM Modi tweeted.
