12-year-old girl raped in Ujjain, bleeding and partially clothed went house to house seeking help, none helped

New Delhi, September 27

A horrifying and unfortunate incident was reported from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh where a 12-year-old girl who was partially clothed and bleeding went door to door for help. It was confirmed later that the girl was raped and she was trying to seek help from locals. 

The police found the injured girl on September 26  near an ashram and took her to a local hospital, where she is undergoing treatment and is now said to be out of danger.

The Ujjain Police stated that the medical examination has confirmed rape. The police have formed a Special Investigation Team (SIT).

The CCTV footage of the girl seeking help door to door came to the fore when the police had to collect CCTC footage from the area to see how the girl reached there . The footage showed how the girl was pleading door to door for help and no one helped her; she was rather shooed away from one of the homes.

The police have registered a case of rape against unidentified accused under the IPC and also booked the accused under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. 

The police are also using technical surveillance to identify the accused through the CCTV cameras an vehicles identification in an effort to zero-in on the culprits. Not only the accused, the police are yet to confirm the identity of the girl as the girl is not in a state to speak and she was not found fully clothed and therefore no belongings or IDs were found on her. 

Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath expressed his distress at the incident, and asked Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to sanction Rs 1 crore in relief to the victim and strict punishment to the accused.

Nath wrote on social media platform X, “It is heart-wrenching to see a case of extremely cruel abuse of a small girl in Ujjain. The kind of rape that happened to a 12-year-old daughter and the way she ran around in many areas of the city in a semi-nude state and then fell unconscious on the road, puts humanity to shame.”
