BMW Hit & Run accused Mihir Shah called girlfriend 40 times after incident

Mihir Shah was arrested after a 72-hour statewide manhunt when his friend Avdeep switched on his phone for 15 minutes, and it was that the police tracked his location to Virar

New Delhi, July 12

The Mumbai police arrested BMW hit and run accused Mihir Shah after a hot chase as he hid in various resorts following the tragic incident where he killed a woman with his speeding BMW car in Worli. Shah was on the run after the incident. 

Mihir Shah, who is the son of Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) leader Rajesh Shah, confessed that he was driving at the time of the accident but asserted he was not drunk.

Before his arrest, Mihir Shah had travelled to various places in Maharashtra and hid in resorts while the police were looking for him after the incident.

Shah was arrested after a 72-hour statewide manhunt when his friend Avdeep switched on his phone for 15 minutes, and it was that the police tracked his location to Virar.

The luxury car driven by Mihir Shah rammed a two-wheeler from behind in Worli, resulting in the death of Kaveri Nakhwa (45), who was riding pillion, while her husband Pradeep survived with injuries.

The police stated that Shah's cat and mouse chase began after he called his girlfriend 40 times before beginning to flee from one place to another.  After coming to know about the accident, Mihir Shah's girlfriend called up his sister Pooja, who picked him up from Goregaon. She then took her brother back to their residence at Borivali.

After reaching home, Mihir Shah and three of his family members, along with his friend Avdeep, left for a resort in Thane in two cars. After a couple of hours, they went to another resort in Murbad The group then went to Shahapur later and in the same evening, Mihir Shah and Avdeep left for a resort at Virar, while others stayed at Shahapur.

Before reaching Virar, Mihir Shah had travelled to Nashik, Igatpuri, Ganeshpuri and Thane, police added. 

After his arrest, he claimed that he wasn't drunk but admitted to hitting the couple on road with his car. the police also recreated the crime scene from CJ House Worli to Sea Link Worli in the presence of the accused.

Shah had hidden his mobile phone somewhere and the police are finding it. The number plate of the BMW has to be recovered as well. So far, 12 mobile phones were recovered from Mihir Shah's friends and famiy, police added. 

The police had earlier arrested Rajesh Shah and Rajshri Bidawat who was driving the BMW car.
