BSF jawan injured while preventing major tragedy targeting force personnel and farmers

New Delhi, April 22
The Border Security Force (BSF) jawaan was injured while averting a tragedy at the Indo Pakistan border in Gurdaspur of Punjab.
The BSF stated that on the intervening night of 8th and 9th April, an incident occurred when a BSF party, during an area domination patrol ahead of the border security fence during night , detected suspicious items well inside the Indian territory.
This patrolling party was aimed to dominate the area and ensure the safety of troops, defense personnel, and local farmers who frequently traverse and ply on the route during the day time.
During this operation, the troops identified a suspected Improvised Explosive Device (IED) planted ahead of the fence, indicating a clear attempt to target security forces and farmers. Further inspection revealed a network of concealed wires in the fields, confirming the presence of multiple IEDs, officials added.
While cordoning off and sanitising the area, the detonating device of the IEDs, which was concealed, accidentally got triggered off, resulting in a serious leg injury to a BSF jawan. Despite the inherent risks, the troops continued their operation, successfully securing the area and preventing a potentially massive tragedy to force personnel and farmers.
BSF Bomb Disposal Squad reached the spot, thoroughly searched the area and after sanitising the area diffused IEDs in situ and ensured safety of the area, officials further added.
