BSF outlines commendable work of its personnel during the 57th Raising Day

New Delhi, December 1
The Border Security Force (BSF) the only force guarding longest borders in any country observed it's 57th raising day with pride and valour.

The BSF that secures Indo-Pakistan and Indo-Bangladesh borders was raised on 1st December 1965 after the Indo-Pakistan War.

The BSF is the world's largest border guarding force hailed as “India's First Line of Defence”.

The BSF is the only force of the nation with a distinctly defined War-time as well as Peace-time roles and has successfully proved its mettle in accomplishing every task assigned in times of War, Peace and No-War-No-Peace (NWNP) situation.

BSF is also tasked to ensure policing of border areas during peace and check trans-border crimes thereby inculcating sense of security in the border population.

The BSF has 193 Battalions including four Disaster Management Battalions, with a strength of more than 2.65 lakh men and women supported by an artillery regiment, air and water wings, camel contingent and dog squads, commando units, communication set-up, robust training infrastructure and a well-equipped medical set up.

The force pays homage to 1934 brave hearts for their supreme sacrifice and valour in the line of duty. In the current year total 11 BSF personnel have laid down their lives while protecting the sanctity of our borders. The officials said that the BSF personnel have been awarded with 1 Mahavir Chakra, 13 Vir Chakra, 4 Kirti Chakra, 13 Shaurya Chakra, 56 Sena Medal, 232 PPMsG and 968 PMsG.

70,193 BSF personnel awarded with Police Antrik Suraksha Seva Padak in May. In 2021, BSF personnel have been awarded with following Medals on the occasion of Republic Day and Independence Day.

President Police Medal for Distinguished Service-10
Police Medal for Meritorious Service-92
The BSF mans 6386.36 km Indo-Pak Borderand 2289.66 km (International Border).

Under the LoC deployment, the BSF has     435 km out of 772 Kms under operation control of Army. At the Indo-Bangladesh Border, the BSF mans 4096.70 km.
The organisation has 13 frontiers and193 batallions.

The BSF in last one year seized 18,033.304 kgs of narcotic drugs, fake Indian currency notes (FICN) worth Rs. 27,13,000 and 130 firearms and 5461 ammunition. 3636 people have been apprehended by the BSF in last one year
