New Delhi, March 27

The BSF South Bengal Frontier thwarted multiple smuggling attempts along the India-Bangladesh international border with their swift response and decisive action.

In the districts of North 24 Parganas, Nadia, Murshidabad, and Malda in West Bengal BSF rescued 16 cattle from smugglers and seized 851 bottles of banned Phensedyl, 12.15 kg of ganja and 16 illegally transported fish pin balls.

The BSF informed that on the intervening night of 24-25 March, a vigilant jawan at Border Outpost HCpur of 88 Battalion of BSF along the Indo-Bangladesh International Border in Malda district, West Bengal spotted 3-4 smugglers swiftly approaching the border with cattle from the Indian side during the second night shift.

The jawan immediately sprang into action alerting his fellow jawan before rushing towards the smugglers and firmly challenging them to stop. The smugglers ignored the warning and started aggressively moving the cattle towards the border line with sharp dah in their hands. Sensing the escalating threat jawan acting in self-defense and to prevent the illegal activity, fired two rounds of PAG from a safe distance. Startled by the gunfire smugglers hastily abandoned the cattle and fled into the darkness taking advantage of low visibility. After a thorough search of the area BSF jawans recovered 7 cattle, which were safely brought to BOP HCpur, officials added.

In addition to this successful rescue, the vigilant jawans of 88 Battalion BSF also displayed their alertness at Border Outpost Agra, where they freed three more cattle from the clutches of smugglers.
