BSF thwarts smuggling attempt at Indo Bangladesh border in Tripura, one held

When challenged by the troops, the miscreants attempted to forcefully smuggle narcotics and BSF resorted to firing non lethal weapon at them

New Delhi, March 31

The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major cross-border drug-smuggling bid in Tripura’s Sepahijala district on Friday.

The officials said that the BSF troops stationed at Ashabari Border Outpost (BOP) observed a large gathering on both sides of the border. When challenged by the troops, the miscreants attempted to forcefully smuggle narcotics.

In response, the BSF jawans fired one round to disperse the miscreants, successfully thwarting the smuggling attempt.

One miscreant, who reportedly sustained a pellet injury due to BSF firing, was held. His identity is being verified, officials informed.

The jawaans seized a large quantity of narcotics and other contraband items have been seized, officials added.
