CBI extradicts wanted gambling racket accused from UAE

Dipakkumar Dhirajlal Thakkar was wanted in in criminal gambling racket worth Rs. 2273 crores : CBI

New Delhi, September 3

The Global Operations Centre of Central Bureau of Investigation has coordinated with Gujarat Police and INTERPOL in Abu Dhabi for return of a Red Notice subject wanted in Gujarat in a gambling racket. 

The wanted accused was identified as Dipakkumar Dhirajlal Thakkar who was brought from UAE to India on September 1. 

The CBI stated that he is wanted in a criminal case registered on 25th March, 2023 in Gujarat for being a kingpin of an international illegal criminal gambling racket, operating through use of special software applications and utilising hawala channels for dispersal of proceeds of crime reported of over 2273 crores. 

He was booked for criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, criminal conspiracy, causing disappearance of evidence and offences related to Information Technology Act and Prevention of Gambling Act.

The CBI had got issued a Red Notice against the Subject from INTERPOL General Secretariat on 15.12.2023 on the request of Gujarat police.
