CG ASP Akash Giripunje's wreath laying ceremony observed in Raipur

ASP Giripunje had stepped on the IED when his team went to check on a JCB machine that was set on fire at Dondra village

New Delhi, June 11

Chhattisgarh Police officer Akash Rao Girepunje tragic death by stepping onto an IED planted by naxals in Dondra village has jolted his family. The state government observed a wreath laying ceremony on June 10. 

ASP Giripunje had stepped on the IED when his team went to check on a JCB machine that was set on fire at Dondra village.

Chief Minister Vishnu Dev Sai said, "Girepunje’s sacrifice will not go in vain”. Home Minister Vijay Sharma, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao and other ministers and senior police officers were also present.

Girepunje had a humble background with his father running a garage. He worked as a bank official for few years before joining the Chhattisgarh Police in 2013. His family moved to Raipur from Maharashtra and began running a garage. He became well-known in the police force through his singing at police events. 

ASP Girepunje was going to celebrate his daughter's sixth birthday on June 11 and he died two days before that. He is survived by his fath, siblings, wife and two kids, a seven-year-old son and a six-year0old daughter.
