CRPF outlines major operations in CG killing naxal commanders, anti insurgency arrests in J&K, Manipur

The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in recent significant operational successes across multiple theatres Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), Jammu & Kashmir and the Northeast affected areas-during the month of May 2025. 

The officials while talking to media stated that CRPF's operations in the core Left Wing affected states Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Telangana delivered substantial setbacks to Maoist formations.  

Many successful and consistent operations of CRPF led to 40 Maoists neutralized, 26 apprehended, 135 surrendered. The force recovered 77 arms, 1179 rounds of ammunition, 834 kg explosives, 140 IEDs, 34 grenades, 34 detonators, 34 gelatin sticks and cash Rs. 5 lakhs. 

CRPF launched ‘ Operation Black Forest’ alongwith the Chhattisgarh Police. 

Emerging as the largest anti-Maoist operation in the country to date, Operation Black  Forest was a meticulously planned and daring three-week campaign conducted jointly by  the CRPF and Chhattisgarh State Police. It decisively dismantled one of the most fortified Maoist strongholds located in the Kurreguttalu Hills along the Chhattisgarh-Telangana  border.  

During this operation, 31 notorious Maoists were neutralized, and the integrated headquarters of PLGA Battalion No. 1, DKSZC, TSC, and CRC- key Maoist formations  responsible for training and weapons manufacturing- -was completely destroyed. 

The operation started on April 21 and went on till May 11, making it one of the longest anti naxal operation in the country.  

The operation led to 21 encounters, busting of 52 dump sites, and 152 bunkers/morchas. The security forces seized war-like stores including 35 arms, 450 IEDs, 899 cordtex bundles, 12,000+ kg of ration, medicines, and logistics infrastructure. 

Apart from this hude operation, CRPF received another  major breakthrough highlighting the growing disillusionment within Maoist ranks. 

24 hardcore Maoists surrendered before senior officials of the CRPF and Chhattisgarh  State Police at the SP Office, Bijapur. This significant success was the result of sustained  outreach and operational pressure by units of 201, 210, and 205 CoBRA, along with 85  and 199 Battalions of CRPF and the State Police. 

‘Operation Black Forest’ was applauded by Home Minister Amit Shah wo took immense proud in learning about the elimination of Bassavaraju.

The killing of Nambala Keshav Rao aias Bassavaraju also gained appreciation from PM Narendra Modi.

On the same day, 09 Maoists surrendered at the SP Office, Dantewada,  following consistent efforts by 230 and 231 CRPF, RFT DWA, DRG, Bastar Fighters,  and the State Police. These surrenders reflect a deepening crisis of morale within Maoist  formations and the increasing impact of CRPF-led operations in the LWE heartland. 

CRPF officials said that during May 2025, CRPF operations in the Kashmir Valley yielded notable results  through joint operations with the Army and J&K Police:   

Three terrorists were neutralized in Pulwama , six terrorists/hybrid terrorists apprehended (including LeT operatives) in Budgam  and Shopian and one suspect was apprehended in Anantnag.

CRPF seized nine arms,  363 rounds of ammunition, eight grenades, and five IEDs

In a joint operation on May 15 at Nader, Tral (Pulwama) by 180 Bn CRPF, 42 RR, and SOG neutralized 03 JeM terrorists and recovered an AK-47 and ammunition.  

Multiple joint operations in Shopian (by 178 Bn CRPF, SOG, and RR units) led  to the apprehension of 04 hybrid terrorists and recovery of arms, grenades, and cash.  

Not only at Left Wing extremism affected states and J&K, CRPF maintained operational momentum across key insurgency-hit areas of Assam,  Manipur., Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, and Tripura. A total of 43 insurgents/suspects were apprehended in the region over the month. 

The force seized 82 arms, 277 rounds of ammunition, 14 grenades, 05 bombs, Z67,100 in cash, 66.65 kg of narcotics.  

A joint operation in Manipur led to seizure of eight firearms, two grenades, and  ammunition and recovery of huge cache of arms, grenades, and cartridges in Chandrachudapur, officials noted.
