Dalit boy dead in police custody in Firozabad, locals resort to violent protests

Akash (25), was arrested on June 19, on charges of theft and police recovered a two-wheeler from his custody

New Delhi, June 22

A young Dalit boy allegedly ied in police custody in Firozabad  district which led to massive violence by locals of the area. 

Akash (25), was arrested on June 19, on charges of theft and police recovered a two-wheeler from his custody. A day later he reportedly fell unconscious in police custody and he was given primary treatment. As his condition deteriorated he was admitted to a hospital on June 21, where he died while undergoing treatment.

The family of the deceased cried foul and alleged he was torched by the police while in custody and arrested without any charges. The family supported by locals attacked the team of police and set fire to many vehicles as soon as Akash's body was brought to his home.

The police are waiting for the deceased's postmortem report to know any foulplay. 

The police deployed additional forces to maintain law and order in the area.
