Delhi Police arrest three of a gang in Rohini who posed as trapped men, extorted money by posing as police officers

The gang targetted older men and used women to trap them only to carry out fake raids to extort money

New Delhi, February 28

The Delhi Police arrested three members of a gang have for allegedly impersonating police officers to extort money from victims. 

The police said a sub-inspector’s uniform and a fake ID card were recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Neeraj (36), was involved in similar extortion cases, Yogesh (40) and Aashish (35). 

When the police teams raided a spot, acting on information, the duo were found kn a scooter. One of the accused was wearing the uniform while another suspect was carrying a bag containing an additional police uniform shirt.

When confronted, police said, the suspects identified themselves as Delhi Police officers and even presented fake ID cards. 

DCP (Rohini) Amit Gorl stated that the police took them to the Special Staff office for questioning, where the suspects attempted to mislead the police before admitting to their involvement in multiple extortion cases

The gang would target lonely older men online and befriend them. They would look out for businessmen or divorcees in their late 40s or early 50s. The women in the gang would begin talking to them to gain their trust and would meet them in a hotel or a house. The others, posing as police officers, would then conduct fake raids, wearing their counterfeit uniforms and flashing their fake ID cards, to intimidate people and extort money.
