Delhi Police arrested two for alleged offensive social media posts

New Delhi, April 5

The Delhi Police North East District arrested two for alleged offensive social media posts.

The accused were identified as Mohd. Salman (22) of Mustafabad and Mohd. Adil Malik (22) of Vinod Nagar. 

According to the police, an Instagram post gone viral on Twitter wherein a boy was seen carrying a pistol purportedly an illegal one. The Social Media Cell of North-East District noticed it and immediately brought it to the notice of senior officers and was sent to ACP Bhajanpura for taking necessary legal action. The police collected all necessary information about social media accounts in question and also gathered local intelligence about the person seen in the social media post. 

The police from Bhajanpura police station laid a trap in front of Kanwar Mandir, 66 Foota Road and on the instance of the informer, two boys were stopped arriving towards Gokalpuri flyover.  When they were checked, the police found a sophisticated pistol with one live cartridge was recovered.

The police said that during the investigation, it was disclosed that Mohd. Salman obtained the pistol from one Aadil in the month of November 2020 for clicking pictures but did not return. Aadil further disclosed that he acquired the illegal pistol from one Shadab, who used to live in East Vinod Nagar and presently his whereabouts are not known.  

The accused do not have any previous criminal record and reportedly possessed the firearms as status symbol. The police are further investigating the case.
