Delhi Police arrests two in robbery and assault of cab driver in Northwest district's

The Delhi Police arrested two robbers wanted in robbery and assault of an Ola can driver in Northwest district. 

Thr accused were identified as Vishnu Jha alias Mania from Bhalswa Dairy, Delhi, Age - 22 Yrs and Deepak from Burari, Delhi, Age - 28 Yrs. 

During the operation, the police recovered the looted car, the complainant's mobile phone, and a dagger used in the commission of the crime. Both accused have been identified as habitual and active offenders, previously involved in seven criminal cases, including theft, snatching, and violations under the Gambling Act. The motive behind the crime was to illegally acquire money to sustain their extravagant lifestyle.

As per the case details, the police had received a complaint  on March 27 from Satender Pal who arrived in an injured condition at Adarsh Nagar police station. He reported that he works as an OLA cab driver and, at approximately 3:00 AM, while repairing a puncture on his vehicle (HR 38 AD 8312) near Shani Mandi, Road No. 51, Adarsh Nagar, two unidentified individuals approached him.

They forcefully pushed him inside his car, assaulted him, and one of them brandished a sharp-edged weapon. While driving, they continued to beat him and demanded money for his release. Under duress, the victim arranged an online payment through a known person. The assailants then forcibly snatched his mobile phone and, after roaming around, threw him out of the vehicle near Jahangirpuri before fleeing the scene, officials added. 

DCP (Northwest) Bhisham Singh stated that police team meticulously examined multiple CCTV footages from the vicinity of the crime scene to trace the route taken by the perpetrators. Secret informers were engaged to gather intelligence, and through sustained efforts, the team successfully identified the suspects. Based on the collected information, multiple raids were conducted at various potential hideouts.

With the assistance of the technical surveillance team, the location of the looted mobile phone was obtained. Acting on this intelligence, a trap was laid near Jheel at Mukundpur, where the looted car was also spotted with two individuals inside. 

​The robbed mobile phone and a knife used in the commission of the crime were recovered from the possession of the accused. During sustained interrogation, both accused confessed to their involvement and admitted to committing the robbery.

The officials added that both are habitual and active offenders, previously involved in seven criminal cases, including theft, snatching, and offenses under the Gambling Act. The motive behind the crime was to illegally acquire money to sustain their extravagant lifestyle.
