Delhi Police books two persons for allegedly cheating a woman for online hotel booking

New Delhi, June 15

The Delhi Police arrested two persons for allegedly cheating a woman of Rs. 1.3 lakh on the pretext of booking hotel accommodation online.

The duo were identified as Devo Singh and Maan Singh of Rajasthan.

The complainant told police that she was searching for hotels online while planning a visit to the Dwarkadhish Temple in Gujarat in October 2022. She found the details of Kokila Dhiraj Dham, a hotel purportedly in Dwarka and reached out to them via the phone number provided online.

The complainant contacted the said mobile number and one Nirmal introduced himself as the manager of the hotel, the accused person then cheated the complainant and took Rs 1.3 lakhs. 

During the investigation, it was revealed that the cheats used to withdraw the cash from different ATMs in Jaipur and two persons were seen withdrawing the amounts.

The police added that Maan Singh said that he opened bank accounts of poor, illiterate people, and sold these accounts with ATM cards, passbooks and chequebooks to alleged cybercriminals for Rs 10,000.
