Delhi Police IFSO summons Telangana Congress President Revanth Reddy in deepfake video of HM Amit Shah

The purported video that is being circulated was allegedly doctored using deepfake technology to make it seem like HM Amit Shah was saying all reservations, including of SCs and STs, would be scrapped

New Delhi, May 1

The Delhi Police has summoned Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in connection with an allegedly doctored video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah that was shared on social media handles of the Telangana Congress. The deepfake video of Union Home Minister Amit Shah created a political storm between the Congress and BJP.

Revanth Reddy is the president of the Congress’s Telangana unit.

The purported video that is being circulated was allegedly doctored using deepfake technology to make it seem like HM Amit Shah was saying all reservations, including of SCs and STs, would be scrapped. Shah had reportedly said that BJP would remove the 4 per cent reservation for Muslims that is in place in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

A team of Delhi Police's Intelligence Fusion and Stretegic Operations (IFSO) probing cybercrime cases visited the Congress headquarters in Hydeabad.  They also presented the summons issued under CrPC section 91 to social media cell in-charge M Satish.

The BJP had filed a complaint with the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit. The complainant claimed that the video was uploaded in a bid to create disharmony among communities and adversely affect the law-and-order situation.

The Assam Police also filed an FIR at Panbazar police station in Guwahati in connection with the “circulation of a distorted and motivated tweet on the Union Home Minister”.

The Guwahati police also arrested Reetam Singh (31), Gauhati High Court lawyer and coordinator of the Congress’s election War Room, after he made a post on X on Saturday with the allegedly doctored video.
