Centre up for 'Operation Shield', border states to hold mock drills

'Operation Shield’ would be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Chandigarh

New Delhi, May 30

The Centre has announced civil defence mock drill under ‘Operation Shield’ on states across western border.

The government has also given directions on the measures to be followed dring these drills.

The Directorate General of Fire Services and Home Guards, under the ministry of home affairs, earlier announced that the civil defence exercise ‘Operation Shield’ would be conducted in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Haryana, and Chandigarh.

The mock drill was planned in the wake of heightened tensions with Pakistan following a terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on April 22, which claimed 26 lives. In response, India launched ‘Operation Sindoor’ on May 7, targeting terror camps at nine locations across Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.
