Delhi Police Shahdara busted fake call centre that duped Amazon customers

New Delhi, June 25
The Delhi Police Shahdara busted fake call centre that duped Amazon Inc USA customers and has recovered Rs. 64.30 lakhs of cash and 93 laptops from the centre operating at Jagatpuri.
The police said that information was received that an illegal call centre is being run near Tiles Market Jagatpuri area and involved in large scale cyber cheating on the pretext of solving queries & hacking of Amazon services by taking money as security.
The police formed a special team and raided the spot. The police found a sophisticated set up of laptops, computers and accessories were installed there and all these persons were engaging in calls in the said premises and were busy in communication with the customers. It was found that they were impersonating as employees of Amazon Inc.
The police added that it also came to notice that fraudsters are engaged in using illegal techniques through VOIP calling by passing the illegal International long-distance gateways and thus causing wrongful loss to government exchanger and wrongful gain to themselves. They were cheating Amazon Customers based in USA on the pretext of solving their queries related to Amazon Inc. by showing that they are from Amazon and later by threatening that they have hacked their social security card/number.
The employees working at the centre tried to flee the spot but we're eventually apprehended.
The officials added that Rakesh from Bhiwani, Haryana is an overall caretaker and reportedly running this call centre on behalf of one Mannu Singh Tanwar as per the disclosure. On asking about any license and authority to run this call centre the alleged Rakesh could not produce any documents in his support. The mobile phones were recovered from the possession of Rakesh and others which was found containing various US mobiles numbers in Whats-app Group and which were used to send the details of gift card to blockers.
DCP Rohini R Sathiyasundaram stated that
They were cheating on the pretext of solving queries related to Amazon Inc.The people from these alleged fake vendors from the call centres used to flash a fictitious and attractive message to the mobile/mails of the Amazon Customers/victims saying that some 1000/-dollars has been credited to their particular Amazon account. On receiving these messages, the customerused to call back from their mobile phone to know more about the message of credited amount.
The officials added that on receiving call from these customers, call centre agents instill fear among them by saying that their social security number has been hacked by them and can be repaired only on purchase of gift vouchers from Amazon store and sharing of the same with them.
Out of fear, these customers buy the gift voucher as instructed by these alleged callers (min. 99 dollars) and share the details with them which in turn is redeemed immediately into the selective account numbers of the main accused persons who are running these illegal call centre.
The police have initiated legal action also been initiated against the owner of the premises for allowing such illegal activities in the premiseand for violation of DDMA guidelines. Accordingly, proceedings also initiated to seal the premises as per law.
Accused-
Mannu Singh Panwar from Bhiwani, He is a kingpin of this call centre who is presently in Bhiwani Jail, Haryana allegedly for his involvement in a murder case. He was a liquor vend contractor, also previously arrested by Guruguram Police in September-2020 for running such fake call centre at Gurugram in which more than 30 people were arrested.
Rakesh Kumar from Dhanna, Bhiwani, Haryana who is the caretaker of this call centre.
Surjeet Satpal District Charki Dadri, Haryana, who is the senior admin of this call centre.
Deepak Yadav from CharkiDadri, Haryana, who is the admin of this call centre.
Jagdeep Daya Kishan from Gurugram Haryana, Age-28 Yrs. He is Admin of this call centre.
Pankaj Kuldeep from District Bhiwani, Haryana who is an accomplice.
