The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested notorious robber and firearms supplier after a brief exchange of fire at Geeta Colony.
The accused was identified as Raju (38) of Bijnor in UP.
DCP (Special Cell), Pramod Kushwah stated Raju is involved in more than 24 Cases Of murder, attempt to murder, armed robbery/snatching/ theft, hurt, intimidation, arms act, gangster act etc. in Delhi and UP.
The officials said that Raju was apprehended near the loop heading towards ISBT near Geeta Colony Flyover Delhi. The agency had received an input that the accused would arrive on a vehicle with UP registration number at Geeta Colony flyover from Shantivan to meet his contact. The police laid a trap and found him at the spot.
However when he was asked to surrender, on finding himself cornered and surrounded by the police, he dropped his scooty on road, whipped out his pistol and fired at the special cell team. The police team also fired in self defence in which Raju got injured. Raju was immediately rushed to the LNJPN hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The police seized five semi-automated pistols of .32 with four live cartridges and seven empties were recovered from the accused at the time of his apprehension.
The police added that a total seven rounds were fired, four by the accused and three by the police in exchange of fire.
The officials stated that out of total 24 cases, arrested accused Raju has five criminal cases in Delhi. He was absconding in a case of arms act of Vasant Vihar police station after jumping bail granted to him due to corona spread in Delhi as a general policy matter. He is also previously convicted in one case of an attempt to robbery in Paschim Vihar of Delhi.
The officials found out that Raju had procured recovered five pistols from a notorious firearms manufacturer-cum-supplier namely Richhpal Singh of Burahanpur in MP. It has also been revealed from sources that Raju in conspiracy with a person of Bijnaur had planned to execute a contract killing of a person in Haridwar for a consideration of handsome money.
Raju has further told that part of firearms recovered from accused were to be supplied to two persons, one in Delhi and other in Meerut. The remaining of firearms were to be used by the accused in committing heinous crimes including contract killing with the help of his associates, officials added.
The special cell is further investigating the case.
