DG MP holds obscene content, phones and declaine of moral values responsible behind rape; police can't alone control it

New Delhi, June 30
DGP Madhya Pradesh Kailash Makwana chaired a security review meeting with the officers and accessed the ongoing investigations. DGP MP however opined that police alone cannot control or stop rapes and sexual abuse and blamed the availability of obscene content and decline in moral values in the society behind it.
DG MP told reporters, “There are many reasons (for incidents of rape). In my view, it is due to the internet, mobile phones, the availability of obscene content, alcohol, and how people can connect from anywhere at any time through mobile phones. There is a decline in moral values in society. It is not possible for the police alone to deal with it.”
On the reasons for the rise in incidents of rape, the DGP said, “The kind of obscenity being served through the internet is distorting young minds from an early age, and this, undoubtedly, one of the reasons behind the rise in such incidents.”, he added.
The DGP claimed there was a gradual decline in moral values, even within households, and said that the days when children listened to their parents and teachers are long gone.
“We are seeing that even within homes, people are not keeping watch over each other. Earlier, children used to listen to their teachers and parents. There was a sense of shame or respect, but many of those boundaries have now disappeared,” he said.
