Delhi Police Special Cell arrested Mewat based gangster wanted in armed robberies in Delhi

New Delhi, April 1

The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested a notorious interstate gangster of Mewat who was carrying a reward on his name and wanted in multiple cases of armed breaks in the city.

The accused was identified as Shakeel alias Mishtree (22) of Pachgaon of Nuh in Haryana. Shakeel is member of Mewat based gang that had operatives namely The members of this gang namely Liyakat, Shamshad , Vakeel and Rahul. 

The special cell team that was working to arrest perpetrators of armed robberies and ATM breaks identified members of this Mewat based gang of criminals. The team received specific information about the arrival of Shakeel near Satpula Park in Khirkee of Malviya Nagar to meet his contact and do the reccee in south district to commit crime.

The officials stated that he was spotted at about 5 pm while he was coming from Chirag Delhi side. He started waiting for someone near Satpula Park bus stand and was cornered and overpowered by the police. The police seized one single shot pistol of .315 with five live cartridges was recovered from the accused. 

The officials stated that during the interrogation, Shakeel disclosed that he is an active member of Mewat based interstate gang of robbers indulging in siphoning of cash from ATMs in Delhi by breaking these ATMs. He was wanted in 12 cases of breaking of ATMs in Delhi and taking away cash cabins/trays. The members of this gang siphoned off huge cash from these 12 ATMs. 

The officials added that the accused used to spray black paint at CCTV cameras after entering in ATM booths. They used to open the ATMs with the help of gas cutter and remove the cash cabins. Being a mechanic, main job of Shakeel in gang was to cut open the ATMs with the help of gas cutter & other tools and to remove cash cabins/trays with available cash. The accused had used various vehicles including Creta, Scorpio etc. in commission of these crimes in Delhi. They used to identify and target ATMs in isolated and less lit areas where no guards were on duty.

The special cell had earlier arrested Liyakat who had committed 12 cases of breaking of ATMs.
