New Delhi, March 22
The Delhi Police Special Cell arrested one, wanted in various criminal cases who has a history of obstructing policemen. The Special Cell had to carry out a brief firing to apprehend the accused.
The accused has been identified as Imam alias Imamuddin who is allegedly involved in cases under various heads of robbery, riots, theft, attack on police officials and possession of illegal arms.
DCP (Special Cell) Pramod Kushwaha stated that the accused has been involved in various cases of attacking policemen and obstructing police in their duty.
The special cell officials stated that the accused Imam was reportedly called for examination by Nand Nagari police station on February 23 for several burglary cases. However, instead of assisting police officials accused Imam called his family members and attacked upon the police officials with iron rods and sticks resulting in serious injuries to police officials. He absconded after the alleged incident.
The Nand Nagari police station had registered a case under Section 186, 353, 332 and 34 of the Indian Penal Code.
In second incident, In September 2015, a man on parole died for interfering in a quarrel between an estranged couple. The public alleged assaulted by police men and created chaos that tried to settled down by local police but they were physically assaulted. The police had registered another case against him.
In the third incident, Imam was allegedly involved in another incident, wherein accused obstructed and caused head/face injuries, leaving the victim head constable Onkar of Delhi PCR police under trauma till date. With regard to this incident of attack Nand Nagari police station had booked another case against him.
The special cell formed a special team to nab him after their officials received information that one persson has been found committing offences at Inter-State bus stops.
The officials added that the police team laid a trap to arrest Imam near Sarai Kale Khan bus stand. At around 12:05 AM, the police spotted a person on a scooty and identified as Imam..When police team advanced towards him, he tried to escape from the trap finding himself cornered and surrounded by police, desperate Imam opened fire at police team. The police team retaliated in self-defence resulting in injuries in both the legs of the accused Imam..
The officials stated that during the exchange of fire, a total of seven rounds of fire were exchanged, wherein three bullets were fired by accused Imam on police and four bullets were fired by police that led to leg of the accused. The injured accused was immediately shifted to AIIMS Trauma Centre..

The officials added that previous involvement of Imam were found in Nand Nagari, Jyoti Nagar, Usmandpur and Dislhad Garden.
