Delhi Police West District arrested one for alleged extortion
New Delhi, March 21
The Delhi Police West District arrested one for alleged extortion of Rs. 10 lakhs from a citizen within 12 hours of the police complaint.
The accused was identified as Pawan (26) of Madan Giri. He was mastermind and
Arun Kumar Singh (24) who was allegedly making threatening calls to the complainant on instance of accused Pawan.
DCP Urvija Goel stated the accused posed as Tihar Jail gangster and made extortion calls to the victim to pay the sum.
The police said that they received a complaint on March 16 at Tilka Nagar police station where the complainant mentioned that he received a threatening call from one unknown person on his mobile phone. The alleged caller presented himself as gangster from Tihar Jail and threatened the complainant to pay Rupees 10 lakhs to him otherwise he will face dire consequences.
The police added that the alleged caller also shared the correct details of complainant to put further pressure. The complainant further received four threatening calls from the same number on 18-19/03/2021.
The investigators through technical surveillance found the mobile phone used for extortion was also recovered from his house. During investigation the accused Arun Kumar revealed that one Pawan, who also has previous criminal involvement, hatched the present conspiracy for the purpose of extortion from the complainant and they threatened the complainant for extortion of Rs. 10 Lakhs. It was also revealed that the accused persons also made various threatening calls to other persons also for the purpose of extortion which are being investigated.
The accused Pawan was arrested at the instance of accused Arun Kumar who disclosed that his cousin was an ex-employee of the complainant who provided him all the details of complainant’s family for the purpose of extortion. He also disclosed that he hatched the present conspiracy at the instance of his cousin. He further disclosed that he purchased the mobile used in present crime from one pick-pocket near Govind Puri bus stop for rupees 300 and kept this mobile at the house of accused Arun Kumar who made the threatening calls to the complainant on his instance.
The police are now hunting for accused Arun Kumar while further investigating the case.
