DSP Himayun Bhat, an example of grit and courage for young officers in J&K Police

New Delhi, September 14

A youg bright officer of the Jammu & Kashmir Police, DSP Himayun Bhatt took a bullet on him in the line of duty during an encounter with the militants in Anantnag district on September 13. The bullet not only hit DSP Himayun Bhat but it also the Jammu and Kashmir Police family. 

As he lied in a coffin drapped with the Indian national flag, the J&K Police stood still watching a the sheer grit and courage of his father, a retired J&K Police officer, IGP Ghulam Hassan Bhat who laid wreath on his son's body. 

Ghulam Hassan Bhat, in sheer composure laid a wreath while being accompanied by senior IPS officer, ADGP Javaid Mujtaba Gilani. He walked up to his son with full strength and paid his last respects. 

Himayun Bhat, an Jammu and Kashmir Police Services (JKPS) officer of 2018 batch was reently posted as Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) in Kokarnag area of Anantnag disrict. He was married only last year and had a two-month-old daughter. 

The grief coudn't be bigger for the family that lost the only son but a bright young officer who joined the police force inspired by his brave father. 

DGP (J&K) Dilbag Singh alongwith  Lt Governor Manoj Sinha, Chief Secretary Arun Mehta paid their respects to Humayun Bhat after Ghuam Hassan. 

DSP Himayun Bhat came under heavy firing from the terrorists in an operation where three officers- Colonel, CO of 19 Rashtriya Rifles Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonchak and DSP Humayun Bhat were leading the operation from the front. The injured officersere airlifted from the inhospitable area of the mountains that was underheavy firng when the para commandos managed to take them to hopital. The officers were dead. 

An officer requesting anonymity said, 'Himayun chose to lead from the front and when the security forces reached the spot acting on an intel input, a new officer like him, didn't back down but he was out there to face the consequences. The militants fired indicrimnently and the bullets hit him. He was a cheerful man and never backed down by threats". 

The death of Himayan came crashing down his family especially his mother and wife who couldn't come to terms with it. The 26-days-old daughter who has no idea of the incident lost her father. However, in a shattered family stood Ghulam Hassan Bhat who has became an example to all fathers on grit and composure, courage and sacrifice. The expressions from his eyes give a message to this country that it is not a father who lost his only son but a country who lost a son who saved his motherland from dreaded terrorists. 

DSP Himayun Bhat is martyr and who laid down his life for India!
