Manish Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 last year for purported irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22

New Delhi, August 10

After spending 17 months in jail, former deputy CM of Delhi, Manish Sisodia walked out of Tihar Jail and called his release 'freedom of life".

Sisodia was welcomed by a huge sea of supporters and members of Aam Aadmi Party outside Tihar Jail welcoming their leader showering flowers. The party workers picked Sisodia on their shoulders and raised "zindabad"  and chanted “jail ke taale tootege, Kejriwal ji chhootenge” echoing in the vicinity outside Tihar Jail.

Soon after his release, Sisodia went to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal's home and meet latter's wife Sunita Kejriwal.

Sisodia, who was accompanied by many party leaders, including Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh, Delhi minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, also took blessings from Arvind Kejriwal's parents.

The Supreme Court granted bail to Manish Sisodia, saying his long incarceration without trial had deprived him of the right to speedy justice. Notably, Arvind Kejriwal is still lodged in Tihar jail in connection with the same case.

Sisodia was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on February 26 last year for purported irregularities in the formulation and implementation of the now-scrapped Delhi excise policy 2021-22.

Later, he was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case stemming from the CBI FIR on March 9 last year. He resigned from the Delhi cabinet on February 28 in 2023.

After spending his first day at home, Sisodia took to X and posted a selfie with his wife, Seema Sisodia saying, "“First morning tea of independence…..after 17 months! The freedom that the Constitution has given to all of us Indians as a guarantee of the right to live. The freedom that God has given us to breathe in the open air with everyone.”
