HP Police book a man who posed as Army officer and allegedly raped a girl

The victim told the police she met the suspect Sumit on Instagram

New Delhi, February 10

The Himachal Pradesh Police lodged a Zero FIR against a man from Sikar in Rajasthan for allegedly raping a woman in Chandigarh on the pretext of marriage after introducing himself as an officer of the Indian Army.

The police stated that the alleged incident took place in December 2024.

The victim told the police she met the suspect one Sumit on Instagram. The two started communicating on social media and agreed to meet in Chandigarh. The suspect met her in Sector 8 and took her to a hotel wherein he allegedly raped her. He claimed to marry but later retracted. 

The victim also told police that the suspect met her in Jalandhar once, but he forcefully made physical relations with her in Chandigarh.
