The Jalgaon Police probing the honour killing case arrested the mother of the victim who along with her male friend, were killed allegedly by her relatives last week in Jalgaon for being in a relationship.
The police said the girl’s mother was the main conspirator behind the crime.
The police had earlier arrested five persons including the girl’s juvenile brother who had shot dead the girl’s 22-year-old male friend Rakesh Rajput and later strangulated the girl to death.
The police said that the four were involved in destroying evidence.
The police said that the incident took place around 8 pm on August 12, when a relative, one of the arrested accused, spotted the couple together and took them home where the accused were present. The police said while the family was opposed to the relationship with the man as belonged to a different caste.
The police added that after assaulting the duo at the house, five accused took them to an isolated area on the border of Jalgaon at Varad road. The girl’s 17-year-old borther took out a pistol and shot Rajput dead on the instructions of the girl’s mother.
The juvenile then went to the police station with the pistol and surrendered. The police arrested the four relatives on August 13 and the mother was finally arrested on August 15. .
The police have booked the accused for criminal conspiracy, murder, destruction of evidence and other charges under the IPC.
