Karnataka BJP minister's office gets extortion calls and morphed images of his son with a demand for ransom

New Delhi, January 11

The Bengaluru Police have arrested one for allegedly trying to blackmail the son of BJP minister ST Somashekar in an allegedly morphed video of him with a model.

The accused was identified as Rahul Bhat who had allegedly morphed images of minister's son and demanded extortion sum of Rs. one crore. Bhat is a famous astrologer's son in Bengaluru.

As per the case details, Nishanth, son of Somashekhar had filed a complaint with the cyber police on December 27 stating that his father’s personal secretary, Bhanu Prakash, received extortion calls from unknown persons. He complained that the callers had demanded ransom and threatened to release an alleged sex video of Nishanth if their demand was not met.

The extortionists also allegedly sent a few of his morphed images on WhatsApp.

The police stated that the complainant said that some people were trying to tarnish his father’s image by using his morphed images.

Somashekar is one of the six ministers in Karnataka who has got a court stay against the airing of ‘CDs’ purportedly featuring them. After senior minister Ramesh Jarkhiholi resigned over a leaked video of him with a young woman, they rushed to court to get a stay, triggering a huge controversy in Karnataka.

The cybercrime branch has taken up the investigation and suspect that Bhat was supported by more suspects to extort money from the BJP minister.
