Kolkata witnesses clashes on Eid-e-Milad, prohibitory orders and Section 144 imposed till October 12

Tension flared up in Kolkata following a clash between members of two communities in Mominpur area on Eid-e-Milad
The administration issued prohibitory orders in parts of the city for three days till October 12. The authorities have also imposed Section 144 of CrPC was imposed in areas- Diamond Harbour Road, Bhukailash Road, Ekbalpore Lane, Baraun Field Road and Hussain Shah Road.
The police stated that the initial clash took place on on October 8 night over hoisting of Milad-un-Nabi flags. The matter, however, was settled at the time. However, on October 9 a group of people ransacked several houses in Mayurbhanj and Bhukailash localities of Mominpur. In protest against the incident, a group of people vandalized Ekbalpur police station.
The mobs vandalized several houses and cars and protesters seeking action attacking a police station.
On October 10, the BJP staged a protest and criticized the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) over the violence. Party state president Sukanta Majumdar was stopped by police in the Chingrihata area when he was on his way to Mominpur. He was detained and taken to Lalbazar.
The situation was brought under control after pressing hundreds of policemen on duty. The Kolkata Police alongwith CAPFs have been deployed to ensure law and order in the city.
