New Delhi, November 4
A Lashkar-e-Taiba commander was killed in an encounter that broke out in Khanyar area of Srinagar.
Inspector General, J&K Police (Kashmir Zone), V K Birdi said that four security personnel two each from the J&K Police and the CRPF were injured in the day-long encounter. They were admitted to Army’s 92 Base Hospital and are stable.
The police have identified the LeT commander as Usman Lashkari who was killed in the encounter.
The Kashmir Zone Police said that Usman, had been active in Srinagar for the last few months. He was involved in the killing of inspector Masroor Wani, who was shot in the Eidgah area of Srinagar while playing cricket on October 29 last year. He died at AIIMS, Delhi in December.
The police stated that a cordon and search operation in Khanyar has resulted in an exchange of fire and that police and security forces are on the job.
In a separate encounter, two terrorists were killed in Anantnag district of South Kashmir. Of the two killed, one was a foreigner and the other a local, officials said. Their group affiliation is yet to be ascertained, officials said.
Two migrant workers from Uttar Pradesh had been shot at by militants in Budgam on November 1. Both survived and are being treated at a Srinagar hospital for gunshot wounds.
