PROCLAIMED OFFENDER ARRESTED AFTER 11 YEARS

New Delhi, February 28

The New Delhi District Police arrested a proclaimed offender from Delhi who had allegedly harassed a minor and was absconding since 11 years. 

The accused was identified as Shashi Yadav alias Sarwan (38), a resident of Unnav in Uttar Pardesh. A case was registered against him in July 2003 for allegedly insulting and outraging modesty of a woman under Section 509 of the Indian Penal Code at the Parliament Street police station. 

DCP New Delhi District, Eish Singhal stated Yadav was declared as a proclaimed offender by the Patiala House Court in May 2009. 

As per the case details, a 14-year-old minor girl had filed a complaint against the accused Shashi Yadav and his friends. She stated that when she was standing at DMS booth, West Side, North Avenue, accused  and his friends used abusive, vulgar and filthy words with her and outraged her modesty. 

The police said that after completion of the investigation, charge sheet was filed against the accused in the court. During trial, accused Shashi Yadav failed to face the trial and was declared as proclaimed offender.  The police added that during enquiry, it was revealed that Yadav was going to meet his friend in Ashok Vihar. On the basis of secret information, a trap was laid and Yadav was was arrested.  

The accused has been to judicial custody, police stated.
