SP worker tries to self immolate himself in Lucknow outside SP office

New Delhi, January 17
A Samajwadi Party worker attempted to immolate himself outside the party office in Lucknow after being denied a ticket to contest the upcoming Uttar Pradesh polls.
The police said that Aditya Thakur from Aligarh poured petrol and attempted to set fire to himself.
The police added that he was immediately stopped in time by police officers present at the scene. He was later detained.
After his apprehension, he told media, "I will take my life here today, come what may. You cannot stop me even if you throw me in jail. I want justice".
A video of the incident went viral on social media. In the purported video, Thakur can be heard accusing the party of robbing him of his ticket and giving it to "outsiders".
He claimed he did not have a criminal record but was still denied a candidacy.
The party worker wanted to get a ticket from Chhara constituency to contest the polls.
