New Delhi, August 14
A speeding SUV ran over two persons asleep at Mumbai's Versova beach, killing one person on the spot.
The duo were identified as Ganesh Yadav, who used to work as a rickshaw driver and Bablu Srivastava, were sleeping at Versova beach.
The accused driver was identified as Nikhil Jawle (34), and his friend, Shubham Dongre (33).
The police stated that Srivastava received a blunt impact on his head and hand, after which he saw a car running over Ganesh, who was sleeping beside him. He allegedly saw the car driver and his friends coming out of the vehicle but as they duo were lying unresponsive, they fled the scene in their vehicle.
Bablu Srivastava and Ganesh Yadav were rushed to the city's Cooper Hospital, where the latter died during treatment.
The police have also sent their blood samples for testing to determine if they were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
This incident took place just a month after the infamous BMW car accident that killed a woman on the spot in Worli. The car driver Mihir Shah, the son of Shiv Sena leader Rajesh Shah, had rammed his BMW.
On July 22, a speeding Audi car hit two auto-rickshaws in Mumbai, leaving the drivers of both the auto-rickshaws and two passengers injured.
On July 20, in another incident in Mumbai, one person died after he was hit by a speeding BMW car in the Worli area of the city.
