UP STF Inspector injured in Shamli encounter passes away

Inspector Sunil Kumar was leading the STF team that eliminated four from gangster Mustafa Kagga gang

New Delhi, January 23

The UP Special Task Force (STF) Inspector who was injured during the recent Shamli encounter that eliminated four from Mustafa Kagga gang, succumbed to his injuries. 

Inspector Sunil Kumar breathed his last, two days after he was shot at by the gang members. 

Kumar, 53, was hit by three bullets in the abdomen during a gunfight between 11 pm and 11.30 pm at the Bidoli-Chausana Road in the Jhinjhana area. He was taken to Amritdhara Hospital in Karnal, where doctors referred him to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon. He underwent a six-hour surgery. 

The the STF team led by Kumar gunned down four members of the Mustafa Kagga gang — its alleged mastermind Arshad and his three associates, Manjeet Dahiya, Satish and an unidentified individual.

Kumar was inducted into the PAC as a Constable on September 1, 1990 and was promoted to the post of Head Constable in 2002.

He served in Agra, Ghaziabad and Moradabad and was later transferred to the STF. In 2008, he shot dead two alleged gangsters, Umar Kewat and Ram Raj, and was promoted as Sub-Inspector. In 2020, he became an Inspector.
