Assam Police arrests an assistant professor of NIT Silchar for alleged sexual harassment

A student had registered a complaint with the institute accusing Raju of molestation and mental and sexual harassment, alleging that he called her to his chamber after class on the pretext of discussing her marks and touched her inappropriately after asking her to lock the door : Cachar police

New Delhi, March 22

The Assam Police arrested an assistant professor at Assam’s National Institute of Technology (NIT), Silchar, following a complaint of sexual harassment by a student.

The police told media that D Koteswara Raju, an assistant professor at the institute since 2018, was arrested. 

A student had registered a complaint with the institute accusing Raju of molestation and mental and sexual harassment, alleging that he called her to his chamber after class on the pretext of discussing her marks and touched her inappropriately after asking her to lock the door.

Issuing an action taken report after her complaint, NIT Registrar Ashim Roy stated that Raju was placed under suspension with immediate effect. 

The complaint triggered protests by students in the institute, who demanded the termination of the assistant professor’s services.
