BSF arrests one at Indo Bangladesh border with gold worth over Rs 83 lakhs

Thr arrested accused was working for a gold smuggler in West Bengal and was caught with 10 gold biscuits

New Delhi, September 16

The Border Security Force (BSF) arrested an Indian national with 10 gold biscuits worth over Rs 83.34 lakhs. 

The officials stated that acting on intel, the BSF launched a well-organized operation. The BSF intelligence department shared detailed information with the commander, resulting in the identification of the suspect and his apprehension at Bangaon Railway Station in wee hours. 

The arrested smuggler has been identified as resident Bangaon, Bhawanipur, North 24 Parganas.

During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he was working as a carrier for one Bangaon resident (unknown) near the Veterinary Hospital on Chakda Road. The smuggler was promised Rs 100 per gold biscuit for successfully transporting the gold from Bangaon to Kolkata. 

On 9th September 2024, 10 gold biscuits were received from an unknown person from Bangaon Bata More and were instructed to deliver them to an unknown person at Sealdah. On 10th September 2024,, while he was moving towards Bangaon Railway Station with gold biscuits, BSF jawans apprehended him with gold biscuits.l, officials added. 

The arrested smuggler along with the seized gold biscuits has been handed over to the Customs Office at Petrapole for further legal action.
