BSF jawaan detained by Pakistan Rangers near Ferozepur

New Delhi, April 25
The Pakistan Rangers detained a jawan of India’s Border Security Force (BSF) after he accidentally crossed the international border in Ferozepur district Punjab.
The jawan, identified as P K Singh, hails from the Hooghly district in West Bengal and was recently transferred to this area.
Pakistan Rangers reportedly released a photograph of the jawan with his eyes blindfolded.
Two BSF jawans had been deployed at Jaloke post, where farmers were harvesting crops across the barbed wire fence (still within Indian territory). It has come to the fore that at the time of the incident, Singh was carrying an AK-47 rifle and a water bottle, The incident took place near BSF fencing gate number 208/1, in the Mamdot sector of Ferozepur.
The farmers in the region who have agricultural land located across the barbed wire fence, but still within Indian territory. They are permitted to work in these fields during fixed hours under BSF supervision. BSF jawans deployed for this duty are known as Kisan Guards. The designated hours for farmers to access their fields during summer are from 9 am to 5 pm.
BSF stated that they are in touch with the Pakistan Rangers after the incident.
